Apparently No Other Team Will Ever Lose

Thank goodness for the Wild Card. The Pirates have just been playing great. I haven't had time to blog but it's been fun watching this. They're 13-6 in May so far and are winning today. But the Reds are also 13-6 in May and the stupid Cardinals are 15-5. St. Louis has the best record in baseball, a fairly unsustainable 30-16. Then, there's the Rangers at 30-17. Then the Reds at 29-18 and the Bucs at 28-18. This is Tampa/Toronto historic levels of frustration! BP says the Bucs' pythagorean record should just be 25-21. Oh well. Sometimes a good bullpen can skew that. The pythagorean has the first place Junkees in fourth, too. At any rate, they are playing great, winning in lots of different ways... pitchers duels, slugfests, come-from-behinds, garden-varieties. I don't have much to complain about. Maybe that's one reason I haven't been blogging. I've always been a foul weather fan. I love the character of the "band of misfits" rotation: The second-wind veteran (Burnett), the comeback from injury star (Liriano), the unheralded workman (Wandy), the minor league journeyman (Locke), and the other-teams-trash our-treasure (Gomez). The lineup and bullpen are similar. I really like how this team was put together. It's something I always thought would happen and I'm glad to see results so far! Tomorrow night I'll be at the Trop in Tampa to see the Rays take on the Junkees. That should be "fun"!
