AL TRADE - Ken asked me to post

The Cursed Bambinos send:

068 Curt Schilling
452 Michael Young
503 Manny Ramirez
510 Garrett Anderson

to the Young Guns for:

495 Grady Sizemore
512 Vlad Guerrero
042 Josh Beckett

Comments:
Five-Year Pecota Projections

Using Pecota's WARP1: wins above replacement player, which includes defense, the trade is fairly balanced for this year, but after that skews heavily toward Cursed Bambinos.

Vlad+Sizemore+Beckett:
06: 16.4
07: 16.0
08: 15.5
09: 14.3
10: 11.8

Schilling+ManRam+Young+Anderson:
06: 16.8
07: 13.6
08: 10.7
09: 8.0
10: 4.6

Cursed Bambinos wind up with these nets:
06: -0.4
07: +2.4
08: +4.8
09: +6.3
10: +7.2

Which translates as "wins" or how many games Bambinos would gain and how many Young Guns would lose because of this trade.

Also, this assumes that all players will be held year to year, which Garrett Anderson probably won't be. Dropping him from the equation after 06 we get:

Schilling+ManRam+Young+Anderson:
06: 16.8
07: 11.9
08: 9.6
09: 7.1
10: 4.6

06: -0.4
07: +4.1
08: +5.9
09: +7.2
10: +7.2

Ironic trade

Considering the Young Guns are giving up their 3 of their best 4 young players and getting only one young guy back.

Ken, you just brought Vincent into the league. Do you think it is helpful to take these three good young guys off his team before he even gets a feel for how the league works? I have learned the hard way that you cannot win in a keeper league without young talent.
