What is the Deal with Darnell McDonald?
Why does he have a job with a team with one of the highest payrolls in the game? Why does he have a job, period?
Things I learned today about Darnell McDonald:
Why does he have a job with a team with one of the highest payrolls in the game? Why does he have a job, period?
Things I learned today about Darnell McDonald:
- Has a career triple-slash line of .250/.315/.396. That's terrible. That's terrible for a utility infielder! Much less an outfielder... a CORNER outfielder!
- OK. Maybe he has a really promising minor league line. No. .273/.333/.406. That is not good. It pretty much shows that his level of hitting as a professional baseball player.
- Well, he's young, right? Um... no. He is 34. He has already peaked. He had 1347 minor league games under his belt. Career minor leaguer, fine. Why is he on the major league squad??
- Bat control? Not really. 57 career walks and 164 career strikeouts.
- Ryan Sweeney? Career .284/.344/.382. What is with these sub-.400 slg outfielders?
- Jason Repko? Career .226/.297/.350. Ugh. Seriously??
- The only other option is Che-Hsuan Lin with a .256/.351/.349 career minor-league line? That's not encouraging, but Lin at least is only 24!
- Kalish? Spears? Hurt and still not that good. Still looking at .400 slugging.
- Maybe because we spent all our money on Carl Crawford and his .255/.289/.405? Ugh. What a hole in the lineup for such a key offensive position.
Meanwhile, things are going pretty well. Nice comeback yesterday. Winning today but umpires are conferring about a possible Carlos Pena home run to bring the Rays back into the game.
We're also looking at 6 weeks without Tacoby which means plenty of McDonald, Repko, Crawford, and Sweeney.
